The Secularism of the Army and the Islamists
"The Secularism of the Army and the Islamists Mostafa Zein Al Hayat - 02/09/07//

The historical reconciliation between the political Islam and the modern state in Turkey took more than 80 years. This spans the period from the establishment of the republic and its triumph over the effect of the Protocol of Sèvres until the election of Abdullah Gül president days ago. Throughout this period, the army was able to maintain the secularism of the state that rebelled against a conservative society ruled, for many years, by caliphs (Sultans) in the name of Islam. From this title they drew their legitimacy, seizing the significance of such title in the consciousness and subconsciousness of the Muslim, especially in the Arab world. In its name, they fought and occupied countries and subdued them for centuries, brandishing religious slogans in the face of Western Christian slogans."

There is evidence that the results of voting were "fixed" at many voting stations. You call this ruling party democratic, after having reverted to such tricks?
    ---
Ataturk did the best thing by leaving the Arabs, after what the Arabs did to Turks. If Arabs are so good, why don't they unite and help their Iraqi brothers against the madness of the USA?
    ---
Ataturk chose to unite Turkey with the west, at his time, but always stressing independence. Now we see that it is better to unite us with China, as the west does not apprecciate Turkey's alliance.
    ---
Secularism is not being without a religion. Secularism is being free to choose. It is also supported in the Koran and in all the books of God. Belief is not to be by "force", but by one's own free will. Hence the idea of Islamic republic is against the Koran which is a great guide book for life - but not to be enforced on the individuals.
    ---
Turkey today, in despite of her political and economic and educational and social problems, still has a leader's position in the Middle East and is looked upon by admiration by many nations.
    ---
The only way for Turkey to come out of her present situation, is by reverting back to Ataturk's
principles which are the most suitable and pragmatic for Turkey's progress.
    ---
Ataturk did the best by having the Koran translated into Turkish, because "belief" and religion are impossible to attain in a foreign language which one doesn't understand. Sora Fussilet, ayet 44
in the Holy Koran clearly expresses this.
    ---
The assumption that Ataturk was without belief in God and Islam religion is totally wrong.
